PROBUS Club of Oshawa SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS (as of January 2023)
Special interest groups are groups within the PROBUS Club of Oshawa that provide members opportunities to participate in various activities throughout the year. The groups are for members only and are coordinated by volunteer members of the Club (convenors).
The groups vary in size, depending on the activity and meeting location. Some meet throughout the year, while others are seasonal in nature. If a group can no longer accept members due to limited meeting space, a new group can be started.
If you have a particular hobby and interest and would like to share this interest with other Club members, email oshawaprobusclub@gmail.com and your request will be forwarded to the appropriate Special Interest Group Coordinator.
The information below provides a general description of the PROBUS Club of Oshawa’s special interest groups. More specific information about meeting dates, locations, etc. are available in the PROBUS Club of Oshawa’s monthly newsletter. If you wish to sign up for any group, please contact the group convenor or Special Interest Group Coordinator.

PHOTOS 2023 - Getting together

THE SUPPER CLUB – Marlene Owen
The Supper Club was launched Monday January 23. The group met at Bollocks Pub and Kitchen (the old Tartan). We had a delicious dinner and enjoyable conversation. It was lovely to meet PROBUS members that we didn’t know that well. So new friendships are blooming.
The group is going to meet monthly on the 4th Monday of the month at 5:30. At the moment our group has met its 12-member capacity. Each month Members are taking turns choosing a restaurant for the group.
This evening was a great way to start the week. Cheers!!
LUNCH GROUP - Donna Keller and Marilyn Lannon Our January group of 13 ladies met at Piper Arms Pub in Brooklin. Ladies, what a wonderful feeling when we are laughing together, and realize how much you appreciate everyone's company at our monthly gatherings. Thanks for making our lunches a special time. See you all in February. Donna Keller |
Lunch Group at The Red Lobster -
Another successful outing for our monthly lunch group. We went to the Red Lobster in Oshawa, with fifteen ladies in attendance, plus we had a new member join us. Nice to get to know the ladies on a more intimate basis, fun to share stories. Remember March is the month to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, so be sure to join us at an Irish pub, wearn' the green! ☘ Location to be announced. |

Great company, good conversation, drinks, and dinner! The Supper Club crowd met up for all four on Monday, April 24, at the Waltzing Weasel in Oshawa, hosted by Geri Sparkes. This was our fourth supper together and, once again, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves while eating a very satisfying and delicious meal. Our next supper will be hosted by Pat Bayus on Monday, May 22, location to be determined. |

LUNCH GROUP - Donna Keller and Marilyn Lannon
Our monthly luncheon was held at Pur & Simple in Whitby, with eighteen ladies in attendance. Thankyou ladies for supporting the group and making it such an enjoyable outing. Enjoy the stories and laughs. Marilyn and I will be on the hunt for a new spot for our May get together, stay tuned! Pictures provided by Donna Keller and Marilyn Thaxter |
A fun time was had by all! We had 13 ladies meet at the Symposium restaurant in north Oshawa on a beautiful sunny day. Not sure it was about the food, but there were many laughs and word games!! We finally came to a consensus as to what "Queen" Camilla's official name should be.
Plus, Christine finally got her own name badge, maybe not the official one!!
Looking forward to seeing all of you in June, a special spot I'm sure no one has been to before. Be prepared to sip on a coffee, or beverage of your choice and enjoy the ambiance of this special hide away. We’ve got you wondering, right? It is wheelchair and Walker accessible.

Our lunch group of sixteen ladies gathered at the highest point in Durham County, for a most enjoyable afternoon. "The Trail Hub", is a unique spot on Chalk Lake Road, about 16 km northwest of Brooklin. Some ladies found it a challenge to find the spot, even getting a personal escort up the hill, right Linda?🤣
All of which, lead to a few chuckles. We had three birthday’s, Nancy and Jean both on our lunch day, and Marilyn, who will celebrate Friday. Thanks, ladies, for making the effort to be together at this picturesque unique spot, on a perfect sunny day. Love the friendships we’ve made. Stay tuned for what we’ve chosen for July. BOOKWORMS
It will certainly be a challenge for any future year-end meeting to match the exciting and informative program we experienced at our recent Bookworm's meeting. Our guest speaker was Whitby author Amanda McKee, whose book There and Back Again was just recently published. This is a personal story of her life and struggle with the debilitating condition of Anxiety. She decided to set pen to paper and write her story with the intention that it might help others. Her talk focused on the complex process involved in self-publishing, the essential choices to be made, the details to consider and the on-going process of marketing.
Hearing an author speak about her work was a truly rare experience and one greatly appreciated by all the Bookworms present. The photo on the left shows Amanda at the front left with Phyllis, the hostess for our annual “garden party” on her right, surrounded by some of the members of the Bookworms – Pat, Marlene, Bernice, Barb and Maria.

TRAVEL FOR LIFE! Let's go everywhere!
It was with great enthusiasm that three of our club, Geri Sparkes, Janet Good and Gail Elliott journeyed in August on the first trip planned through the Oshawa PROBUS Club Travel Group. The Great British Telly Tour was a hit for all three.
LUNCH GROUP - Donna Keller and Marilyn Lannon
August Another fun summer day with our lunch group. The weather person said rain all day, but I called this morning and said hold off the showers, we’re eating outside. It must be the luck of the Irish, we had beautiful weather. Fifteen of us gathered at the Parkwood Estates Tea house, for a delicious lunch and comradery. Always lots of laughs, thankyou ladies for the great time. See all of you in September. Donna Keller |
