APRIL 2024 - Lunch Group
On Wednesday, June 19, three members of the Daytripper’s group boarded a Lakeshore Tours bus and headed out to attend a Yesterday Once More matinee concert at the Walkers Theatre, a beautiful 200-year-old, wooden-beamed barn, owned and operated by the Walters family in Bright, Ontario. We relived the music and harmonies of the past with featured songs from the 5th Dimension, The Carpenters, The Mamas & Papas, and ABBA, all performed by four dynamic singers direct from Las Vegas, who combined some very entertaining banter with the non-stop hits of yesteryear. Prior to the show, we were treated to a country style home cooked meal at Quehl’s Restaurant in Tavistock, which evinced memories of the typical, and delicious, Sunday dinners we all enjoyed in the past. - Geri Sparkes photos courtesy of Geri Sparkes |

FROM THE TRAVEL GROUP (Submitted by Geri Sparkes)
Agawa Canyon Adventure Did you know that Sault Ste Marie promotes itself as Ontario’s Premier Outdoor Adventure Town? Six members of the Probus travel group, who took a 3-night/4-day Agawa Canyon tour with Cardinal Lakeshore Tours in early October and stayed in the Water Tower Inn in the heart of Sault Ste Marie, can attest to the fact that “the Sault” and surrounding areas do indeed offer many great adventurous activities, as well as great food and entertainment. Here are a few highlights from our fabulous short getaway: Pic 1: View from Car 6 as our train rounded one of the many loops Pic 2: One of many breathtaking views from Agawa Canyon heading to Agawa Canyon Park Lookout which is reached by climbing 300 + steps Pic 3: Geri Sparkes & Jo Anne Thackeray attempting to take off Pic 4: Geri Sparkes & Pat Bayus standing at the very edge of from the Canadian Heritage Bushplane Centre! Lake Superior. Just visible in the background is one of the many cargo ships that traverse the lake daily bringing goods to and from the US. Pic 5: Enjoying a drink and some entertainment after a delicious meal in the dining room of the Water Tower Inn. |

Our lunch group met at a new restaurant, One Ten Bistro and Bar in Whitby. We had nineteen ladies present; we enjoyed a delicious lunch and great service. Thankyou ladies for supporting Marilyn and I over the last three years. We appreciate each and everyone of you, and I can say over the last few months your friendship has meant the world to me. GARDEN AND NATURE GROUP – Jackie Frank
On Tuesday, October 1, the group went to Guild Park and Gardens for its last outing. The Friends of Guild Park provided a tour titled “Guild Park: Where Art Meets Nature”. We learned a lot about the downtown Toronto buildings that were destroyed years ago; it was like a walk-through history. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We also saw the park’s Native Pollinator Garden which was awarded Toronto’s Top Community Garden Award this year. |
GROUP - Donna Keller and Marilyn Lannon
The ladies lunch group met at The Anchor Bar and Grill in east Oshawa, with 15 ladies present. Fun to see everyone and catch up on what people have been doing. It has been decided, we will not have our usual December lunch, as there is an ugly sweater event close to Christmas, and everyone is too busy. We will resume on Jan 21, 2025, with a special event already in the planning for February. Have a very Merry Christmas, and see all of you in the new year. Thanks to all of you for making 2024 special. Donna Keller and Marilyn Lannon PICTURES by Sharon Smith |
